Bowers on FLV
Bowers on FLV: Geoff Bowers writes of the increasing use of Flash Video on the web. But for me, the arresting part was his first sentence: "For a company that spends most of its time working with traditional web design and development, we seem to be doing more and more video work for clients." This is something I've been noticing more lately -- web video has become just another data type, an expected part of the user experience (when appropriate). HyperText Markup Language dominated the first part of the WWW -- static graphics faced opposition when first used heavily -- motion and interactivity took some time to establish themselves as productive parts of the user experience too -- with the whole AJaX talkfest we've finally got widespread consensus on the RIA view of splitting logic among server and client. Web video was desired by some from the start, but the first generation of architectures was desktop digital video repurposed to in-browser use. Now video has become Just Another Mediatype within browser-based presentations. Knowing that everyday clients are now considering video a commonplace request is a very promising change.... ;-)

Hell ya! And knowing that Flash 8's video codec is based on (newer) H.264, the video bang-for-the-bandwidth-buck will be better.
Now, I wonder how many of us use simple tools like iMovie as opposed to a Prosumer/Pro video editing app? For AFL "play of the week", I digitized Beta SP tapes in iMovie who was my savior for those quick edits.
