Schmitt on SWF8 video
Schmitt on SWF8 video: Kevin Schmitt writes at CreativeMac.com on "New Features in Flash 8 Professional, Part 3: Video takes center stage", a three-page article on features of the new authoring environment. He discusses batch-compression, has many screenshots of the compression options, discusses the "video skin" options to blend controls with content, covers video components, more. (For info on why On2 VP6 was chosen for inclusion in this new Player, see Tinic Uro, whom Kevin also cited in his article.) I appreciate that Kevin closed with that line "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should," because it's a near-certainty some sites out there will try to combine high frame rates with high usage of realtime filtering and blendmodes, and their audience on slower consumer machines won't see the same as the author sees on a high-end authoring machine. Anyway, Kevin has a great intro here, if you're evaluating the new capabilities.
