Camphone impact
Camphone impact: I like words, but anyone can make and read photos -- the ability to capture and share what you see is driving a lot of growth for pocket computing. This New Scientist article shows how software drives a phone to snap multiple photos of paper text, reconstituting them for character recognition -- there's then debate about what this will mean for copyright in storefronts. Meanwhile, new technology arises to prevent photos -- a scanner constantly examines the surrounding area for telltale infrared reflection of camera lenses, selectively blinding them with directed light. We've all known that anything you do in public can be seen, but we're still dealing with "anything you do in public can be stored eternally and shared with the world". Such a little difference, yet.... ;-)
