Mobile manga
Mobile manga: Japan Times has a discussion of the business angles of 2D black/white graphic stories in Japan... the business of moving dead-tree versions had been in decline, and now is pushed off the precipice by the move to mobile displays. This also has an effect on the old distribution social structures: the businesses which sprang up to be an intermediary between the creator and the eventual buyer. Some creators are going direct-to-pocket, just as some musicians are bypassing the established recording/promotion/booking/airplay intermediaries. (Odd note: Even though cartoons are flat monotone drawings, not all handhelds can currently display them as intended... creators here have some migration/evolution issues to handle as well.)
