Whats news?
What's news? Depends on who you ask. The link is to the new (and nice) tech.memeorandum.com (see previous commentary here). Right now the top screenful is of bloggers linking to other bloggers writing about Yahoo's Instant Search UI change. Yesterday the first two screenfuls were of bloggers linking to other bloggers writing about Google's separate blogsearch engine. Both are nice developments, but the more significant news this week is from Microsoft's developer conference -- Windows Vista will have a greater effect on the world than will incremental changes to search engines. But of this week's conversational topics, the even more significant news is that Macromedia Flash Player 8 has entered general public distribution. Where Google's blogsearch helps writers doing vanity searches, and where Microsoft Vista will help people who migrate to that operating system, this new generation of Macromedia Flash Player will be part of the viewing experience of most every computer in the world, and eventually on pocket and home devices too. The web did significantly change this week -- the world's computers are now receiving dramatic new capabilities, even as we speak -- it just sometimes takes the majority awhile to recognize such truly meaningful shifts as this, that's all.... ;-)

Memeorandum says up front that it's "reports and opinions on technology". It's not news, it's reports and opinions. My experience with these kinds of sites is that they pass over things that aren't sexy to write about. The initial betas of Flash 8 were sexy to write about because the features were new then, but the actual RELEASE isn't all that sexy.
It's like the old stock tip - buy on the rumor, sell on the news.
