MacTel Player

MacTel Player: This was just posted by Emmy, but I'm duplicating it for those who don't drink from the full MXNA firehose... the new Intel-based Macintosh computers now have a v8.0 Flash Player. The full identifier is v8.0.27.0, compared to the v8.0.23.0 preview which was in Apple's original shipment. It includes yesterday's version-locking changes. There's an additional MacTel Player FAQ to complement the general Adobe MacTel FAQ. (My apologies to branding police if "MacTel" is not acceptable, but "Apple Macintosh OS X for Intel-based computers" is longer to type.... ;-) More stuff being ported to more environments as we speak.... ;-)

John,

Where might we send bug reports for the preview release? The link at http://www.macromedia.com/bin/fp8betafeedback.cgi appears to be looking for F8.5 beta reports. Thanks!

Oh, and let me steal some space here to tweak a bit about the Adobe MacTel FAQ in PDF form instead of simple, more universally readable html? I'm a big fan of pdf, but not for this kind of content. ;)

Update: I'm not sure now if "version-locking changes" was the right term for me to use... see Emmy Huang's comment here:

Lewis, thanks for your time in testing this... I'm not sure about feedback route either... let's pursue it here:
http://weblogs.macromedia.com/emmy/archives/2006/03/flash_player_8.cfm

If time is tight then comments to the FP8.5 address will get re-routed, but thanks for catching the lack of explicit address in the technote.

(The unexpected PDF caught me by surprise too... some such documents are designed for accurate printing, but I'm not sure why this particular document wasn't HTML either... let me forward this among other staffers, see if we can get some more info.)

Hi,

I PDF'd it ... my apologies, sort of ;-) I used the template that the Creative Suite business unit used for their Intel Mac FAQ, and at one point thought we might link it from both the adobe.com and macromedia.com sites. It was created with Adobe InDesign.

We're not specifically addressing feedback on the preview release because it is pre-release software with a proof-of-concept port and we expect there to be performance and compatibility issues. The final universal player will be version 8.5. But if you do have an issue to report, particularly crash bugs, you should use the bug form: www.macromedia.com/go/wish.

best,
