AOL video goes SWF8

AOL video goes SWF8: America Online launches "UnCut Video", and specifies Adobe Flash Player 8 as the minimum renderer. The above link shows some nice puppet work with a dancing skeleton. [via Michael Arrington]

JD, it's good to see Flash video taking off like it is, with Google, YouTube, ABC and now AOL getting on board.

Are there any good articles / case studies out there on the infrastrucutre behind these systems? I'm assuming they all rely on Flash Media Server, but I'm curious about how they're clustered, etc. because I know FMS likes its bandwidth.

[jd sez: Not sure... I know that there was a sudden breakthrough in interest clearly seen at the recent National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas, but I didn't personally know that all these businesses would jump out in public over the last month. I suspect there will be case studies soon, but I'm still getting pleasantly surprised by the newspapers each day.... ;-) ]

I'd also love to see a case study or white paper on when the bootstrapped version of these Big Media properties choose to go from a reliable data center to a CDN or Flash Media Server. Not only are these "turning points" important to the technologists, but I would imagine that (for those who make the right "scale-up" decisions) this is a major part of the business success-story. And even more than the DRM choice, the compression quality or the monetization plans... these choices really effect the entire entertainment & media industry.
