Helio context
Helio context: Yesterday there was blog coverage of some news items from a company named Helio about something with "mobile flash" in North America. I held back from comment because I didn't know the details, and couldn't find out the details from their website or news articles. Checking with people around the shop today I learned that there are also efforts inside Adobe to learn what relationship that company might have with Flash Platform, or exactly what they're doing. I'm sorry I've got nearly zero information in this blog post here... I guess the big takeaway is that I do have zero information so far myself on it, if that context is of any use in your own reading.

John, I tried to get a straight answer from their tech support and the end result was it supported Flash ... however, they wouldn't come out and say exactly what it meant! It was like playing some sort of tech support game!
Now I am skeptical ... as it took 10 minutes to walk them through what the Flash Lite Player was. Perhaps, it is a case that they are still training their staff?
I'll be able to confirm it once and for all once I get the actual device in hand.
Anyways, I guess the lesson here is that it should always say "Adobe Flash Mobile", or "Adobe Flash Lite" and not just "Mobile Flash". Not sure if you folks have control over that or not ...

Thanks for the field research, Scott! If you drink beer, then I think I owe you one.... ;-)
Good point you raise on the naming issues too, and I think this is particularly important with the "Flash" label. I know that there's more activity stirring here across the new, larger Adobe organization, but I don't yet know details on how this will be pursued. I guess this is a clear example of why such name-protection is needed.

ok. I got the phone today.
But as soon as I go to activate they are telling me they have technical problems and they'll call back when it can be activated.
So much for a quick check ... perhaps later tonight.

I noticed "Mobile Flash" was pulled from Helio's list of features under entertainment ... so looks like any action Adobe took was successful.

Hi John,
A bit late on this feedback but I came across this topic while doing some research. The 'Mobile Flash' you came across offered by Helio is a proprietary vector graphics player in Korea by a company called Digital Aria
http://www.digitalaria.com/ . Currently in Korea there are a few vector graphics formats available for the mobile environment. The usage of the "flash" name is really the easiest way to market and describe vector graphics. So Mobile flash what better way to describe vector for mobile. :) But John you have a point protecting name would ideally cause competitors to come up with a better way to market their technology.
Just for your information...since SKT has a stake in Helio, they are essentially migrating existing technology platforms and services from Korea to the the US.
I hope that helps shine some light if you haven't already found out.
[jd sez: Thanks, Vincent!]

I have the Helio Ocean and I have not been successful in viewing any sort of flash content. I got my phone from hellohelio.net and have used the heliocity.net forums for all my technical support. I find it much more efficient to post my questions in a forum vs waiting on hold for tech support. Did you guys check out heliocity for information on Flash?
[jd sez: There's a chance this may be from a sincere individual, but if so I'm not sure what the question is, in this comment to a two-year-old blogpost. I'll leave the text in, but I stripped out the links.]
