Insurance documents
Insurance documents: This is a press release you probably wouldn't be interested in, but I'm linking it here 'cause it shows some of the new dynamics in the whole Adobe business. The insurance business has lots of forms, and they use a combination of Adobe readers and servers as a core part of their workflow. (More on Acord here, here, and here.) The relevance? These vertical industries are used to the Adobe name, and already do business with Adobe. Other Adobe-branded offerings now have an entry to these workflows. In weblogs we usually see writings from enthusiasts, but these don't always transfer over into realworld business use. Business use pays the bills, allows for new development, and gives a credibility that helps additional groups adopt a technology base. No big thing here, but the technologies we've been using for years are, almost invisibly, gaining acceptance in ways we couldn't have imagined a few years ago.

Accord was doing forms MANY years ago! It is great to see they picked up the friendliness of Adobe FDF technology. They have been the leader in this technology for that industry (simulating forms on the comuter screen) in the larger market for years. They in fact on the printed side are the most accepted (or used to be) vendor for insurance offices who want to use a single form regardless of which of the many insurance companies they may provide for the clients. Good catch JD! It's good to see that the market leaders are doing things that the little guys could start doing also!
