Got historic SWF?

Got historic SWF? Adobe staff are putting together a presentation of how Flash work has evolved over its decade, and is seeking SWF content which had an impact on the whole community. In the extended entry here are details from Jaime Austin... any questions, just add 'em in comments here, thanks. (Me, I'd really like to see John Croteau's "Hawaii" FSCommand demo again, and of course there's the original Gabocorp, and, and, and.... ;-)

Be a part of Flash history!

Flash turns 10 this year, and in honor of the anniversary Adobe is creating an interactive timeline to showcase content throughout the decade of Flash.

Did you or someone you know create Flash content that blew peoples minds and changed the design/development landscape from that point forward? Adobe is seeking submissions. We're particularly looking for content and key events from Flash versions 1-4.

For consideration please send the following information to flashhistory@adobe.com

  • Your Name
  • E-mail address and contact information
  • Short description of how your or this person/company/website/moment changed the landscape of Flash with url, if possible.
  • Date content was developed
  • Version of Flash you used
  • Description of the content you are submitting or are able to submit (you must have legal rights to the content). If selected we will content you for more details.
  • Please try to include a screenshot if content is no longer live (if selected, it would be great to get the Flash files)
We look forward to hearing from you!

Nothing I can help source, but an early pivotal site I saw was late Flash 3/early Flash 4. It was an old iteration of the Hoover website, black with purple wireframes of hoovers showing dust particles floating around. That sold me on the power of Flash and I never looked back. Not that that's any use to you without the files... sorry :)

[jd sez: No worries, good story, might even jiggle someone else's memory, thanks. :)]

I think my personal favorite was the typing Sea Lion from the FWS site ;)

in my best homer simpson voice.

"But is a sea lion.... and its typing.... WooHooo"

I was hooked from then on in.

Remember the orange Ego Media site? Full screen, rotoscoped video animations, rocking sound track. It was huge!

Remember these names: Matinee, eye4u, Neostream, Romeo Design, Chris Glaubitz 3d engine, Gabocorp?

I have a collection of 6,000 .swf's collected from the browser cache over the years as many must have - posted some here:
