IT 2010

IT 2010: ComputerWorld carries predictions on the technical job market at the turn of the decade, from Gartner Group, Foote Partners, Society for Information Management. As more areas of the world support technical development, deep skills in a single area will migrate most easily, and customer-oriented problem-solving skills will remain more locally valuable. Those who can see how to fit different pieces of technology together, to fit a specific business need for a specific customer, will have more options than those who just code a project they're given. The latter section of the article is set up in easy-to-scan fashion, so I won't pull quotes. I suspect many of the commenters at Slashdot may be reacting to the summary posted there, not the actual predictions.
