Adobe science
Adobe science: I've written before about how Adobe invests in basic science in a way we could never accomplish back at Macromedia... next week there's a lecture here by Przemyslaw Prusinkiewicz, author of The Algorithmic Beauty of Plants, a study of organic emulation via Lindenmayer systems. I held off blogging this a few days, because I know how many people reading these blogs are fascinated by L-systems and didn't want to tease (there are lots of good Flash studies available via Google), but I gave in 'cause I think it's just too cool that researchers like this regularly meet with Adobe scientists, and it gives a real indication of where the new company can go. I'll be there, with Koch-snowflake-adorned bells on.... ;-)

Joshua Davis (Praystation) has been doing some interesting stuff with Flash and L-systems for a while now. Be sure to check out this diary entry http://diary.joshuadavis.com/?page_id=37 for more info. For anyone interested in learning about Josh's use of Flash as "Art Making Machines" I recommend his summer workshop at Anderson Ranch in Colorado.

Any chance of a somebody who doesn't work for Adobe to get invited to one of these things?
[jd sez: Kristin, I was thinking of you when writing that post. :) Hey, tell you what, if you can get to 601 Townsend by 3pm Monday, let me know, and I'll set up a visitor pass and we'll crash the remote broadcast together, okay? ]

Yeah! I'll be there :-)
[jd sez: Cool, there will be a visitor pass waiting for you in the lobby at 601T from about 2:30pm Monday, and they'll buzz me when you arrive, and we'll get to watch everyone fuss and cuss with the videoconferencing system ("Please turn OFF your GSM phone!"), it'll be fun. :) ]
