Katie 2.0
Katie 2.0: CBS News hired Katie Couric, and it was big news in the cultural programming world. I don't watch either, but this caught my eye: on her first day, September 5, CBS News is also increasing its delivery options, offering live Web simulcast as well as asynchronous viewing, bloggery, podcasts, the rest. Their current video is in Real Networks format, probably because of the rights-management this architecture offers. I don't know if interactivity will be increased -- whether they'll link to source evidence, respond to factual challenges, disclose the media production trail, things like that -- but for the material they're already packaging up for broadcast, it's great news that the Web is now a first-class citizen too.
