Adobe SVG Viewer
Adobe SVG Viewer: Adobe Systems has formally announced that there is no future development planned for its SVG-rendering browser plugin. I just heard of this, from a post by Adobe staffer Paton Lewis, and don't have further info. Best document I've seen is "ASV EOL FAQ" (3-page PDF). The "no support in 2007" part puzzles me, because I don't see "Adobe SVG Viewer" listed at Adobe Support, and the SVG forum doesn't get much traffic -- I'm not sure what changes here. The browser plugin will be available on the Adobe site through January 2008. I still think the smartest way to go would be for advocates to contribute to SVG rendering in SWF -- such SWF libraries would make a good opensource project. (Historic link: PGML's launch in 1998.)

Maybe OffTopic, but;
What will this mean for Flash Lite then ? It was my understanding that Flash Lite was rendering to SVG-Tiny to actually display anything ? Can we finally expect a desent renderer with speed in Flash Lite 3 ? It's frustrating to see Symbian or J2MEE apps more then easily outpacing flash both graphically aswell as feature-wise.

Ah, slight difference there... Flash Lite 1.1 could render SVG-Tiny instructions, in addition to its normal Flash Lite content. (SVG was a specification, while Flash Lite is an implementation.) Info on that, from the time, is here:

If you write in low-level code then you can optimize better for a particular device, but the tradeoff is that you're then writing for each individual device, and porting costs are large... here are a couple of links with background:
