Aperture "war"
Aperture "war": I came across an odd, uncredited article via Digg... this line caught my eye: "In January after the completion of the Macromedia takeover, Adobe held a worldwide event for its employees in the Bay area. Allegedly, at this event various senior Adobe execs publicly vented their ire and shock to the gathered employees about Aperture's release." I was at that meeting, and I don't recall anything even remotely resembling this. Later the author asserts that Adobe might not ship Adobe Creative Suite 3 for Intel Macs for spite, which is just plain nuts. The author didn't sign the work, and doesn't accept comments, but in case you get questions from people you work with, then... well, I was there, and didn't see what he says happened. Maybe the author's really a dog or something, I dunno.... ;-)

Oh, and there's another rumor that's in the commercial news wires today, about some analyst predicting that Creative Suite 3 will "release" on May 1. I've got no solid info on that either... there's launch, there's release-to-manufacturing, release-to-web, distinct stages of "release". May 1 2007 is a Tuesday, which is a traditional day of the week for launches, but I don't know what other evidence the writer chose to pick that day. CS3 is planned for release in the first half of next year, that's the most authoritative word I've seen so far.

I spoke to people who were there and was told that one exec had a 'dig' at Apple at the beginning of the Lightroom presentation. They were clearly left in no-uncertain-terms that Aperture was based on the original Lightroom concept. Perhpas you weree caught up in the general euphoria and missed it?
[jd sez: Are you connected with that anonymous article? Too many loose ends here.]

Of course Adobe would never do something so punitive and silly - look at the way they've given their loyal Mac-based users full support for the new high-performance Intel platform in the past year...
[jd sez: "Eliot", you're aware that Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen has been giving accurate guidance on the Creative Suite port to MacTel for a long, long time already, right? That entire issue is different from the issue we're talking about here, as well.]

Hi JD - I'm not clear if you're a representitive for Adobe or not. Your byline says that its your views and not those of the company, yet you then seem to be speaking as a company rep. I know its a difficult line to walk but you need to realise that we, the photographic public will hang every word we hear from Adobe people. At the same time I also read the 'offending' article and it did clearly state that some elements were only rumor. Keep up the good work.
[jd sez: I do work at Adobe Systems and my views are my own, as the boilerplate describes. In this paragraph I said what I myself saw, which certainly beats an uncredited author paraphrasing what he says he was told by an uncredited source.]

Update: The mysterious author (Mark Murphy in London?) has put another of his pieces up on Digg, apparently extrapolating from Contribute 4's audience to Creative Suite's audience, regarding native Intel/Mac apps. I know it's awhile to wait, but Adobe guidance that CS3 will arrive first half of next year has been consistent since before I even heard of the Adobe acquisition.
