Biz atop FLV

Biz atop FLV: Richard MacManus links in to 60+ web video services, and makes some guesses how things will evolve in a post-YouTube world. Seeing so many business investments in one list made me realize what a "platform" web video has suddenly become. The application development world is powerful, but so is the video entertainment world, and now each of them is helping pull the other along. Up ahead, we'll see the tooling become integrated (pro video houses uniformly use Adobe AfterEffects, which isn't yet particularly SWF-savvy), and as video becomes more accepted I think we'll see it integrated more with other media types and interactivity into new presentations and applications -- there are more stimulants for rapid evolution up ahead. The YouTube distribution model may have Google as a big player, but I think the entire area will evolve even more opportunities for smart businesses. If only Philo T. Farnsworth was around to see this...!

By the way, if you're in San Francisco, then Farnsworth's lab was at the corner of Green and Sansome... I've passed the building before, but hadn't realized it was the birthplace of television, and I'll look for the plaque next time. ;-) SF Web Museum has info.

Semi-related, but I didn't see an entry on it.

The PSP v3 firmware is supposedly getting FLV support, is this native FLV support outside of the Flash Player? Is FLV emerging as a format that can stand on its own?

[jd sez: Sorry Paul, I don't have info on this subject. I know I've gotten confused in the past with the way that Sony PSP info gets translated and distributed, but what you wrote above is the first I've seen with that combo of ideas.]
