An Emmy for Tin Can
An Emmy for Tin Can: I just learned from Emmy Huang that Flash Video has won an Emmy. I had to check the news services before I believed it. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has long made awards for broadcast technology, but non-broadcast is a new award... here are winners from 2003, 2004, 2005... surround sound, closed captioning, satellite transmission, these are some of the prior winners. "Tin Can" was the name of a skunkworks project to add a small video codec to Macromedia Flash Player 6... I remember Jon Gay and Sarah Allen on this team (who else?)... amazing that it has changed the world in this way. I usually don't watch these awards, but if Emmy's getting dolled up in a gown for an acceptance speech, then I guess I can make an exception.... ;-)

Congratulations to everyone on the Tin Can team! Don't forget Pritham Shetty, Brad Edelman, and Srinivas Manapragada. I'm sure there were others.
Cheers,
-Brian
[jd sez: Thanks, Brian! I see Pritham regularly on Townsend St, but I didn't know him during Tin Can days -- thanks for the info!]
