Landscape-changing, under-radarishly
Landscape-changing, under-radarishly: Cool... Richard MacManus hosts an editorial from John Milan on the current tech field, noting how much of Google and Microsoft revolves around collecting data on users rather than creating enabling software, and adds this about Adobe: "It's an audacious strategy which has been flying mostly under the radar. While Microsoft and Google have been trying to encroach on each other's turf, Adobe has been trying to move the whole playing field. I believe if they can include a few popular mobile devices as well, it just might work." After MAX, some of my big impressions were also of under the radar, changing the landscape, mobile disruption. I prefer to work in enabling technology rather than datamining, myself. Where does my data live, how can I access it, and what rights-management do I have over it... I think these will be the defining questions for software over the next 5-10 years. It's heartening to read John's understanding of Adobe's unique role here.

Agreed, keeping the web inside the pdf/Apollo sandbox will save businesses billions and the underlying operating system's brand will be no more relevant than the flavor of disk drive or ram is today.
Plus, every 'hand-me-down' box granny uses will have the look, feel, simplicity and safety of the newest systems - reducing hardware churn overall, even for businesses.
If Vista does hardware video acceleration on the Flash player and Apollo... then gamers might lead the charge... :)
