MacTel update

MacTel update: I'm bumping up this link from John Nack, because it can help if you purchased the new Macintosh hardware and are waiting for all apps to be ported... the Mac OS X 10.4.8 update increases emulation speed by over a third. The notes mention improvements to Altivec translation, which (if memory serves) is a type of parallel number-processing used in Photoshop's imaging engine... apps like MSWord don't show the same improvement. Still, if you're using an Intel-based Mac and haven't updated, then there seem to be clear advantages to doing so.
