Adobe acquires Macromedia

Adobe acquires Macromedia: One year ago today. Sky didn't fall in... go figure, huh? Of course, it took awhile for the deal to actually become official.... ;-)

4 to 5 years from now Microsoft acquires Adobe.
Just a few months after Sony goes bank root and Nintendo rule the game market with there Nintendo Wii 2.0.

You may not believe me but I seen it happened before with my own eyes. Like I develops some how a way to stop and travel time through sheer will power.

So, JD, from your POV, how smooth did it go?

Good bit of perspective, it's ONLY been one year and we're on the cusp of new versions of Photoshop and Flash that show some real integration.

Kudos, I'd love to read a case study of how the merger was implemented. (Integrating products, development practices, communication, organizational structure, etc.)

Howdy Paul, been awhile. Smoother than I expected. The people are more similar than I had imagined. Some of Adobe's business practices are a pain, but there's a lot of regulation on public companies these days (Sarbanes Oxley is very significant), so I can understand why legal groups are bigger now.

I've been happily surprised by the adoption of Labs, the cooperation with opensource, the integration of tools... I learned that there were similar desires within the old Adobe, and the joining allowed these to express themselves.

The best fruits may be two-three years out, though... a lot of the new initiatives started post-acquisition will take awhile to develop. Should be fun.
