JavaScript availability

JavaScript availability: On the mailing lists, the question "But what if they have JavaScript turned off?" often gets the reply "Don't be silly, all browsers have JavaScript now." But here Roger Johansson summarizes three articles from Ian Lloyd, showing how oddly some mainstream sites can break in certain firewall situations, where scripting is only partially enabled. I don't know the answer here... I do know that different groups (whether webstandards, or accessibility, or ajax, or rich experience) often push for the web to grow in different ways. I think each group has good points going for them... it's getting these priorities reconciled with each other that's the hard part.... :(
Update: Speaking of which, PJOnori has a piece today urging webstandards folks to be more accepting of what SWF can add to the HTML browser experience: "Please, for everyone's sake, stop griping about Flash and start educating people on how it can be used more effectively with standards and accessibility in mind."
