MS, winning

MS, winning: When I read this earlier this morning, it tripped my BSometer: "We can't disclose a lot of what we saw [or even if we saw anything at all] at the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Global Summit [isn't that a typical Microsoft name?]. However, consistently we heard that Microsoft at all levels are committed to win. Both Steven [not Steve] Sinofsky and Chris Jones were very aggressive about driving that in, regardless of what's happened in the past...." and so on. Then I saw Robert Scoble had the same reaction. You always have to pay attention to Microsoft, because of their size, their influence, and the fact that they do have lots of good people working there. But that continual projection, about great mysteries to be revealed in the future... it only works if you have a history of flawless execution. (Robert had another good post this week, about how Viacom's legal action against Google might affect the future dynamics of video production, distribution and viewing.)

Well, to be fair, I think a lot of companies do this, and few (if any) have perfect execution records. Apple did this constantly in the mid-90s when they barely had a leg to stand on.

I'd agree more if this message was being broadcast to the public, but this was an invite-only MVP event, and to some degree it's about troop rallying.
