AMP in boxing shorts
AMP in boxing shorts: Much of the journalism coming out of NAB this week pits the Adobe Media Player against the Microsoft Windows Media Player. (The link above is just one example.) With hindsight I can see how this makes sense, because they both have "media player" in their names and both have something to do with video, and it's easier to tell stories of conflict than of newness. But it's strange for me, because I've sat near the Philo folks for over a year, and can't recall Microsoft ever coming up in conversation. I'd defer to them for the best history, but from what I've seen, the Kiwi team had come from adding RSS features to Contribute, and tested Flex 2 during its development with an internal project merging video and RSS, and brought this work to Apollo when we started getting internal builds. The goals were to provide customizable distribution and viewing of video, coming from an RSS-savvy perspective. I've had conversations with this group about the work from Joost, Democracy and the like, but Microsoft just never came up. That's why it seems strange to me to see the "AMP vs WMP" coverage in the press, although in retrospect I can understand how they'd play the story that way. When we start getting public builds of Adobe Media Player, I think it will be easier to see that it's a different kind of critter.

This article may be a better link... it's a little longer, and has a photo of kickboxers.
