Have mercy!
Have mercy! Parvez Ansari, a Microsoft Certified Professional, is getting pretty beat up for writing things like "Apollo and Flex are just a replica of .NET Framework" and "Flash is just an animation software which was made with the intention of being a preloader." I was pointed here earlier today by Ralph Hauwert, and have mixed emotions -- I don't agree with the anti-SWF statements, and I believe speakers have an obligation to research and think before publishing, but this guy is obviously invested in the technical field, and he's one of us, he's trying to make things better in his own way. He's got an IQ above room temp; he's part of the solution. I can understand the anger in many of the comments, because lots of us have had projects and opportunities stifled because of opinions held which were based on incomplete or incorrect information, but I'm not comfortable with trashin' the guy when it's his ideas which have the problem. The most eye-opening part, though -- and the reason I'm making this blog entry -- is the depth and width of experience among the commenters here. Read through what people are saying, where they're coming from... it's only the past 6-12 months that I've seen this type of commentary, this level of experience, which is showing up on more and more web discussions these days. Anyway, I'm feeling sort of sorry for poor Parvez today... if you're tempted to comment, can we show him a little mercy, and try to find areas of agreement first...?

JD, I agree with you but you know sometimes its hard to control emotions :)
I was reading posts about Dekoh vs Apollo and noticed how authors of such posts are so biased, they don't even understand Apollo but still put up a comparison chart on Dekoh blogs..
We can just keep quiet and time would decide which platform is better...

[jd sez: Yeah, it's tough sometimes, particularly when you've been financially affected by similar mistakes in the past. (I find the Dekoh guys' earnestness to be cute. ;-) I think we're coming from a good position, so guess I'm most concerned that we might polarize people, lock them into unsustainable positions. Do as you think best, of course... I was just feeling a little sorry for Parvez there.]

I totally agree. I finished up my (not-too-flaming) comment on his post by calling for a group hug.
I think it's GREAT that Flex, Apollo, the ENTIRE Flash platform will actually make all the .net3, Vista, WPF hype reality.
Clearly, there nothing coming from MS (other than Flash movies) showing off their stuff.
Oops. Sorry. I need help, and as soon as I'm done tricking out Sharepoint sites with CF, Remoting, Flash and Flex stuff, I'll get right on it..

JD, you have class. It shows. :)
And I totally agree with your comments.

If I'm doing the math correctly, relating other people's IQ to room temp degrees means "below average" in any system. I'm not sure about what exactly you wanted to say, John, but writing anything about Apollo/Flex can't be more wrong than insulting people...
[jd sez: Sorry you misunderstood... "He's got an IQ above room temp; he's part of the solution" means that he's not beyond hope. The line just before that should have helped to set context: "he's one of us, he's trying to make things better in his own way."]

Just noticed that Parvez updated his entry..
I would like to apologize for my comments. Since I am passionate about some technology doesn't mean I should have written what I have.
I know I have hurt a lot of people and I sincerely apologize for it.
I made a mistake and I wish that I wasn't sober while writing that. I will do my best to learn from it.
Anyway I totally agree with your comments John.
I constantly enjoy reading your blog.
