Reality hackers
Reality hackers: I knew that such firms existed, but never saw one advertise to individuals before: "ReputationDefender was created to defend you and your family's good name on the Internet. Our goal is straightforward: (1) To SEARCH out all information about you and/or your child on the Internet, wherever it may be, and present it to you in a clear report; (2) To DESTROY, at your command, all inaccurate, inappropriate, hurtful, and slanderous information about you and/or your child using our proprietary in-house methodology." I think this whole area will evolve rapidly over the next 18 months, in the runup to the 2008 US elections. The World Wide Web is just a very malleable mirror of the real world, and is not the real world itself. One of the challenges our species will face over the next two decades is to really integrate this core reality into our understanding of the world.
