Invasive websites

Invasive websites: Google researchers examine 4.5 million web pages, and find that 25% of them harbor potential security/privacy exploits, with 10% of sites surveyed attempting to install code onto vulnerable machines. "The user is presented with links that promise access to 'interesting' pages with explicit pornographic content, copyrighted software or media. A common example are sites that display thumbnails to adult videos. The vast majority exploit vulnerabilities in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser to install themselves." Exploits were even found on good sites were found due to third-party content (ads, widgets) and hacking of hosting servers to infect many good websites simultaneously. PDF of source paper here.
