JavaFX big news
JavaFX big news: Techmeme's going nuts on Sun's story today, it's almost like Yahoo buying Microsoft, the way they pile on each others' rumors. But after reading a bunch, commuting in, then reading some more, I think the actual Big News in this announcement is similar to what we saw from Microsoft with MIX/Silverlight: they're buying in to the goals we've been pursuing -- these large forces in technology are agreeing with the RIA/Flex/UE point of view. In Sun's case, the addition of a more accessible programming model acknowledges that development time costs money, and that maintainence is easier with higher-level constructs... the Flex developmental efficiencies have already had an effect on other technology firms. Microsoft, Sun... I guess now we need Apple to do something good for development and user experience, and then we'll be completely validated, huh...? ;-)

I heard from somebody at Sun that "FX" was part of a codename that originally stood for "Flash Extermination".
