The semi-permeable membrane
The semi-permeable membrane: Popular RIA blogger Ryan Stewart is joining Adobe, in the new platform evangelism group. (Welcome, I owe you a pint, when can I pay up? :) One of the things I've liked about the company has been how so many people working here have come out of the community, and how people in the company often start up external groups of their own, still using the technology. There isn't a hard wall between "adobe" and "customers", it's more like a semi-permeable membrane, where lots of people cross back and forth. I came in to Macromedia Tech Support through chairing the local User Group... Mike Chambers was a strong contributor to the Macromedia Generator newsgroup before working here... Bill Perry was a heavy participant in Mobile discussion groups before joining... Kevin Towes did a lot with Flash Media Server before coming in and becoming product manager... I probably shouldn't start naming names 'cause I won't remember them all, there's a lot! ;-) You'll also find ex-MMers working within many new technology firms, actually using the tools they helped develop. Lots of people working at Adobe are here for their business skills, or general technical skills, but there's a very high number of people here who came in because they knew what customers needed, how people actually use the tools, how the field needs to change -- a good thing, I like it. Anyway, welcome Ryan, keep optimistic and question things, glad to have you here. (And if you're reading this, and are excited by these new technologies, then please give a glance to the Adobe Jobs Board every now and then... lots of good positions opening up, it's a very exciting time.)
