Widget economy

Widget economy: Good area to track, lots of people trying to figure things out. You're renting space on someone else's website... hiring attention from their audiences. A widget provides an attractive ability to the enduser... often relies on some particular data services... and can have various types of branding and advertising to pay for itself. RIAs, widgets, video, desktop presence, all are starting to intersect now, with mobile on the way. Catherine Holahan of BusinessWeek surveys current widget-friendly websites such as Facebook, as people try to figure out where the money will flow.

Facebook isn't a widget friendly site. MySpace is. According to the article, Facebook is considering becoming widget friendly.
