Chumby, Flash Lite 3, soon

Chumby, Flash Lite 3, soon: From the official Chumby blog: "We're shipping chumbys a little later than we initially planned because we decided that the ability to have video running on chumby would be amazing. So we waited to launch with the brand-new Adobe Flash Lite 3 software, the program that plays Chumby widgets. This is a really big step forward and we're thrilled to be one of the very first products, if not the very first, on the market powered by FL3. Trust us, it's worth the wait." First deliveries are due "in a few weeks" -- people who have seen one have wanted one -- it's a wildcard to have such an easily-programmed device, hard to predict, but sounds like big fun. For Flash Lite 3, best info right now is this video-oriented press release from February... not much else in the public record... but expect new material in DevNet soon. Related: Bill Perry notes that that in eight months Verizon's audience of Flash Lite devices in North America has swelled to 16 million, supporting over a dozen different handsets. That's like a dozen TechCrunchs and a passle of GigaOms, just in North American mobile alone...! ;-)

Thanks to Marco Casario for the heads-up last week, and punchkick and jonnymac for the word that Chumby went live on their own blog.

While there is a lot of talk regarding Flex 3 and AIR and they are available on Labs, everything related to Flash Lite 3 and the new FMS is a total mystery for the community.

If FlashLite 3 means ActionScript 3 on mobile, I shall rejoice. I stopped making developing on Flash Lite for 2 reasons:
- weak penetration of FL2
- I swore never to go back to AS2 after I had seen the light with AS3.

So, tell me more. You have my attention.

I can't say more, at least not before the company does, or I'm out on the street.... ;-)

Chuck Freedman started a discussion on similar theme last week, though:

I think those are real and valid dynamics. Fortunately I think we're finally on the corner of seeing real progress in the mobile channel. I can't wait.... ;-)
