JavaFX compiler?

JavaFX compiler? In May Sun announced a new scripting language, JavaFX, based on Chris Oliver's "F3" declarative interface language. Today InfoWorld announced a JavaFX->Java compiler (necessary to turn the declarative scripting into something that can be rendered by the various browsers' various Java Virtual Machines). But the FAQ says there isn't yet a compiler you can download and use... there is source code, which partially compiles the partial scripting language specification, but there ain't no "there" there yet. Yet the InfoWorld article contains quotes like "Adobe's Flash and Flex technologies have been around for a while but have not generated a lot of excitement lately," before going on to describe how Sun's JavaFX and Microsoft's Silverlight have added excitement to the mix. It's amazing how much press these technologies get when they're not even committed to a shipping release. Flash work has near-universal realworld support. The others have nearly nonexistent realworld support. A rational being can compare their future promise, but that's about all. You can ship with Flash.

I know, right? Like...dude, seriously, what have Flash and Flex done recently? Dashboards? YouTube? Web video? Pfft!

It's because Adobe doesn't create a lot of fanfare and BS hype around FP releases, they just do it, developers use the new features, and cool crap starts rolling out.

MS and Sun want Silverlight and Java to be about MS and Sun, not about the things people build with them. Hence the hype. And let's face it, most tech journo's have no real clue. They're not developers, they don't use the stuff on a daily basis. ColdFusion is dead, haven't you heard?

Maybe Adobe should start doing media outreach, because they're sure as heck not going to bother to call to get accurate info.

imo, its just news journalists taking the news and creating hype and "wars" for their news stories,

flash vs silverlight battle it out! who will win?!?!? read our story to find out now!

i think its kindof funny except for when they spread misinformation.

another thing is flex 2 and fp9 came out last year. most media companies cant develop in it until the penetration numbers are right and the client gives the ok. its still pretty new. we are just now starting to see the apps the early adopters have created. until more of these start popping up the journalists won't realize the significance fp9 and flex added.
