60 Years On
60 Years On: "Elton John wants to close the net", that's what the techpundits say. Yet they all link back to an article at The Sun which doesn't cite its source. Nothing at the website. Might be intended, might not be... certainly a story to cure the summertime doldrums, though. "I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut down the whole internet for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span" -- that does sound sort of strange. (Sheet music changed the way people played music together... phonograph had a massive, generation-long impact... radio ended up changing it more than either of the prior technologies did... MTV furthered the star system.) Shutting down amplification might have a more profound impact, with fewer side-effects, than shutting down The Internet...?
