Video Overlay ads
Video Overlay ads: Mike Arrington brings together various claimants to the title of "World's First Discoverer of Video Overlay Ads". Nobody wins, but it's an interesting set of links. (Broadcast TV did have similar-appearing overlays, but those graphics were pre-compiled into the video stream before distribution... SWF is a little different, with late-binding of graphics to video on the client.) Lots of the comments are from braindead people who shouldn't be posting in public venues, but make sure to check out comments from people such as Thomas Gilley, who add other pieces to the puzzle. Good resource at TechCrunch.

They're all wrong, I did it first. :-P
Seriously though, event cue points have been around since FCS 1.0, which is over 5 years old. We did some demos back then but as usually were ahead of the times. And we didn't use them for ads!
