Mobile AIR

Mobile AIR: A little tidbit in coverage of the new "Menlow" chipsets at the Intel Developers Forum: "Intel also trotted out Adobe Senior Vice President Al Ramadan, who pledged support for the Menlow platform via Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR, formerly known as 'Apollo'), which will enable Flash and other media playback on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X platforms. AIR can be seen as a Web 2.0 development platform. Media designed in this environment will run on all three platforms, and look the same whether you are mobile or not. This will be a boon to smart-device users, who won't have to look for 'optimized for Opera, or IE7, or Safari' on their favorite Web sites. The page will come up the same way on your notebook, your Media Center, and your MID." I've seen hints from Kevin Lynch about mobile AIR in the past, but this is the first formal declaration I recall seeing. Hitachi, Fujitsu, LG, NEC, Toshiba, Panasonic, Samsung, and Lenovo are among those who will be using the new low-power x86 chips in their upcoming mobile devices. FINALLY! This is what Adobe has been needing to do for a long time. But please do it correctly! There shouldn't be anymore of this flash / flash lite dichotomy. It should truly be WRITE ONCE, RUN EVERYWHERE. If you guys execute this correctly, you will be VICTORIOUS! hehe

It seems every time I turn around, Adobe has some tidbit here, there and everywhere to drop my jaw. Go Adobe!

re: "flash / flash lite dichotomy"

I know there are ongoing efforts to reconcile the desktop and pocket profiles. I don't yet know what will be announced at MAX.
