Thank you, CS3

Thank you, CS3: Adobe revenues were very strong this quarter, due to extremely significant adoption of Creative Suite 3, particularly in Europe. I look at it in a strange way: creative professionals today are helping to develop the next generation of digital technology, by investing in CS3 and providing Adobe with the resources to fund Flex, AIR, mobile, and all the other technology areas which aren't yet mature enough to pay their own way. Adobe's business leaders are betting on the future, and Photoshop and the rest help bankroll those bets. If you're also betting on some of these new technology futures, then the Creative Suite and Elements lines are your friends -- they're helping to bring the future abilities into reality. The goal we've got here is to "revolutionize how the world engages with ideas and information -- anytime, anywhere, and through any medium." If you've purchased CS3 itself, or have influenced a friend or colleague to buy it, then my thanks to you -- you're directly helping to bring this new future about.

Yeah, Europe where we seem to pay twice the US value for each copy we buy. I still live in hope that Adobe will recognise and do something about this disparity which tarnishes the brand and erodes loyalty. In the meantime, glad to see it being invested wisely at least.

Yeah, especially as the US dollar continues to plummet, European sales must be Adobe's goldmine!

I'm sorry that I was never able to draw forth an adequate explanation of regional pricing differences, but sales in Europe did exceed expectations. The pricing difference with North America was not a deterrent to strong uptake in Europe.

Hmm, it's seems that European overpricing is here to stay. Adobe, Microsoft and Apple, all are doing it. Funny enough, i've never seen a good explanation for the trend (uh-oh, before you reply, to pay for the upkeep european Adobe offices does not count as a good explanation :D).

Surely many have investigated why it's in the end more profitable to charge Europeans more, otherwise companies would not do it. It just would be nice to get a glimpse at that Excel...

[jd sez: Agreed. I've long searched for a rationale of any regional pricing differences, particularly for software, but even info on devices or other goods would help. I know this must be cogently explained somewhere, but I've yet to find the info.... :( ]
