Ambient computing

Ambient computing: Neat... Apple is apparently considering an implementation to let your pocket device place and monitor orders at local stores (eg, order a mocha as you walk up to Starbucks, and the device alerts you when the drink is on the counter). I think there's a range of such services already available in Japan and elsewhere -- you could handroll an implementation if you wanted -- but the Apple brand is able to persuade lots of people, and bring such ideas into the mainstream. Hope it comes with billing integration (so you never have to touch a receipt) and display integration (so the countertop identifies your coffeecup). Speaking of displays, the world's largest manufacturer of rear-projection screens, Sony, has deprecated the technology as flat screens become more economical -- lower prices for larger, thinner displays helps make environmental signage more feasible -- took us centuries to use glass architecturally, and now we're at the point of using networked displays architecturally.
