Got chipmunks?

Got chipmunks? If your audio "sounds like The Chipmunks", then doublecheck the recording frequency... should be an even division of 44.1Khz... lots more info in a web search. Why the link to Google News? Because a news search on Adobe shows an article at The Street magazine, with text abstract "I'm pretty ticked at Adobe because their latest Flash Player causes Alvin and the Chipmunks to start singing on most Mac computers when one of my videos is...". But the article is hidden behind a subscription wall... Google News just steers you to an ad page. Anyway, in case you ever make a video and your voice sounds fast and high-pitched, then make sure your audio sampling rate is not at some strange value. I hope the author is happy making video again, and this poor blogpost is merely the best way I can see to help.

Hey John,

Thanks for the post but is there a patch/fix for this audio problem?

Whenever I try to play a Camtasia web video (they use the Adobe player) I get Melvin and his cousins singing in all their chipmunk glor :o(

However no problems playing any other web audio.

Many Thanks,
michael

"Off-frequency" is the classical cause of chipmunks, but after your comment here today I got some internal email from Flash Player support, that there's something in a non-public database about a change in Player 9 Update 3 (r115) which adds another way to get a similar symptom. In this internal email I saw a quote attributed to some Camtasia staff, but I didn't see a link.

Long story short: There may be an additional scenario specific to Moviestar and third-party SWF writers (including Camtasia), but I'm not confident I could tell the story myself, and don't know where to point you.
