Corpoblogging dangers
Corpoblogging dangers: CNET has an article with anecdotes of recent difficulties... Techmeme has more. The problems? A staffer who didn't disclose his identity or affiliation when talking about business-related issues. Worse, this weblog spoke of patent issues (leave it to the lawyers!!), and then libeled people anonymously. A triple-whammy. If you're speaking with self-interest, then you've got to disclose... recommended in a personal weblog, but mandatory when you're also a member of a group. (Adobe has made a lot of new hires lately, but not all of them have understood their new situation yet -- if you're an Adobe staffer and have a weblog on Adobe-related topics, then you need to put your real name and Adobe affiliation on each archive page immediately, thanks.) Later in the article there was mention of a call to Adobe PR, and the "internal guidelines" mentioned are mainly the obvious legal ones ("don't break NDA" etc)... here are some of the online-discussion tips and practices we've accumulated over the years, across boards, lists, forums, and blogs. The headline was "Corporate employee blogs: Lawsuits waiting to happen?", but from the rest of the article, it looks like the standard "don't be stupid" meta-advice would suffice.
