Thoughts on Windows Mobile, Flash Lite?
Thoughts on Windows Mobile, Flash Lite? Now that you've had a few hours to think it through, what do you think about Microsoft licensing the Adobe Flash Lite 3.x engines for Windows Mobile? Open comments here, in case you've got anything to say for the wider audience within Adobe. Me, I was very surprised when I first heard it a few days ago, even though (as Ryan Stewart says) deals of this type take many months to work through. Makes sense to converge on standard abilities, though... network effects are very real. That's my top thought, after sitting on it for awhile... what's yours?

It's a big win, for all. It would be nice to get a refresher on what Flash Lite 3.0 will offer...

Is anyone at Adobe in a position to comment on whether this browser implementation of Flash lite 3.0 for Windows Mobile will enable a developer to embed the Flash Lite "plug-in" as an ActiveX control or ole component in a custom .net application, similar to the way developers have been creating standalone types of content using the Flash 7 activeX control for Pocket PC platform?
I think it is useful to have a web oriented version of Flash Lite for the windows mobile platform, but the main business model for mobile, right now, seems to be the more traditional idea of downloadable content and applications. Having a way to execute Flash Lite games and applications outside of the browser would certainly help developers who are using Flash Lite for outside of the browser types of content.

Hi Hayden, I have no direct knowledge of the implementation, but I see that the press release is specific when it talks about "the Flash Lite 3.x browser plug-in for Internet Explorer Mobile on Windows Mobile".
