Two augmented-reality projects

Two augmented-reality projects: Virtual Reality is completely synthesized; Augmented Reality ties the computer network to where you are right now. Smart Goggles from the University of Tokyo (more) will associate your spoken voice with image-analysis of common objects (your keys, wallet, etc), and then on command will search its memory to find the last place you saw the object. Could help if you misplace things. The form-factor is currently experimental, but they hope to achieve acceptable cam-in-eyeglasses functionality in the near future. Another recent experiment uses the cam on a pocket device to see what you're seeing, then compare its visual characteristics to a database, drawing up supplemental information about the object... examples here include pointing at a building and pulling up its history or floorplan, etc. Imaging science is about to make some breakthrough contributions... devices need to respond to sight and sound, and not just ASCII characters.
