Light room is the absolute best editing program, and everthing digital imaging could ask for all rolled up in one, I am a huge fan, it is everything I have been looking for. Thanks a thousand times over!!!!

Lightroom 4.1 on Windows XP hangs when attempting to import photos without copy from a TeraStation attached to the network. The CPU usage is very high but never finishes. Is this a known problem?

So far I'm really happy with Lightroom, but wish there were better ways to print a proof sheet of images. iPhoto has an interesting war, with organizing and titles etc. I really like the way I can go directly to CS2 from Lightroom to work on an image.

The download of the Beta 4.1 does not over-write 4.0. Is it necessary to un-install 4.0 before installing 4.1. I'm suffering the database problem with 4.0 refusing to change the default file path.

Very nice program, your doing excellent work with this. I wanted to mention that the demonstrations at the Photo Expo in NYC were outstanding and encouraged me to put more time into working with the program. Thanks for the education!

Just downloaded Lightroom - looks fantastic so far. Stay tuned.

there are some problems with Lightroom and (i think)latest windows updates.
Before the Lightroom worked well, but in last days after launching program, there comes Windows alert note about "nonresponsive program...." and all freezes or I have to shut down the program.
I notice that on my private machine and on work mashine.

Should I make some extra action or setting?

Nice app. I want something that I can use on my mac and my girlfriend can use on her pc.

We store all our photos on a main server and i use unison to sync them all localy. iPhoto was not built to be used like this but it looks like Lightroom may indeed be what im looking for...

One thing I want to be able to do is monitor a folder for new images. That way when I add new images they will get picked up by lightroom.

I know there is already such a feature but it doesnt seem to pickup photos buried in directories within the one being monitored... any ideas if this will be available in a future version?

For Lightroom v1.0, we are supporting a monitored folder for auto import. However it will only import photo files dropped directly into that directory. It does not import photos moved into that directory that are in a sub directory. It's an interesting idea for possible future versions.

For lightroom to succeed for me it needs to have this recursive functionality. I want to keep control over the structure of my photo directory, which iPhoto doesnt seem to want to let you do. Hence why I ended up turning to Lightroom. What I want to do is automatically monitor a folder (i.e. /Photos/ ) and its subfolders, for example my wife adds the following onto our home server :

Photos -> 2006 -> December -> BabyWalking
Photos -> 2006 -> November -> BirthdayParty

I don't want to have to import them manually into Lightroom everytime there is a new edition.

And also why can you not start syncing with a folder which already has photos in it? When you select the option to sync a folder it complains if the folder is not empty.

I've only been working with Macs for a about a year now but one thing I have noticed is that they are not orientated to sharing things very easily (unless the people your sharing with also have a mac), and im fed up of it (iPhoto, iTunes etc) trying to tell me what twisted folder structure its going to use....

Whilst im blabbering on as well. I do find that lightroom is quite slow when dealing with large libraries.for example scrolling through the library. Is there anything I can do to improve the performance?

I also think that the recursive functionality for such a program is very important. And from my programming experience it's not a big deal to implement it in Lightroom.

Why not?

in print panel, after managed wich photos, what corrections, how many cells, sizes, positions, for contact sheet, WE NEED ABSOLUTLY to add a tracing paper (calque in french) in back ground. Maybe for use, (like Lightroom) a very nice dark grey or
any else color . Or to print our name (mark) , anyway to obtain
anything different color from white paper as back . Is my english enouph
clear...?? French version for March ....??? We hope so ...

Lightroom will be a big success on the PC platform I'm sure. It's a shame Adobe didn't get Lightroom out before Apple's Aperture got a 'foothold' with Mac using photographic professionals.

In my humble opinion, Lightroom is a far better product. The way it decodes and allows manipulation of camera raw is significantly better.

I hope Adobe will allow 3rd party developers to write plugins (e.g. support for online image libraries) from the start.

One other thing im starting to notice is that its getting quite slow with my large photo library. I'm getting close to 4000 photos now and its starting to take ages to perform certain operations.

Whilst I'm at it another feature request: I'd like the ability to find all duplicate photos. I'm sure I'd be able to cut my library down significantly if I could easily identify all the duplicates.

Are there any new beta versions in the pipeline?

hey anyone know of a way to change the directory photoshop usage takes place in during use?? i dont have enough space on C:\ but on other drives i have heaps. can anyone help me?

I opened Photoshop Lightroom 4.1 and imported (with default settings) my 3780 photos into it. and it's SLOW! importing was fairly quick - but browsing and developing a photo is dog slow. i used the "Render 1:1 Previews" option and i'm waiting for it to finish (why is this process not multicore compliant, by the way? it just seems to use one core) so i can give a better opinion on the performance side :)

I just imported 19500 photos, mostly Canon RAW (.CR2), and the damn thing is just too slow. I'm running a 3.4ghz P4 w/ 1gb ram (4 years old I know, but should be adequate for simple browsing).
Just selecting photos, expanding/collapsing shoots and collections takes a while.
Sure hope v1.0 takes care of this problem, else this is of no use to anyone with large libraries.

Andrew, we have made some solid performance improvements in v1.0... and will continue to work on this for future versions. We know B4 had some performance problems... and we're working on that for the final release.

Am I doing something stupid? I have just spent the last 3 days editing a week's shoot in Norway (lots of work requiring tweaks to white balance etc. in the snow and ice up there)..I had just got to the point when I was happy with my final photos and decided to move them into collections. I saw the number of photos in the collection increase to the correct amount and then suddenly they had vanished! To be doubly sure (and doubly stupid) I did it again with some more photos into another collection (child of a parent collection again)..and yup, the same thing happened. I am feeling quite miserable at this point if I have lost all that work - so please, can someone help me find the missing photos? Also, when you are moving photos from one collection to another, can a warning dialogue box pop up to ask if it is OK to overwrite photos? Also can we have a true "move" so that photos are removed from one collection and placed in another? It only seems to copy at the moment - unless I am being trebly (is there such a word?) stupid! Thanks

Sorry about your problem. Couple of questions:

- Are these Virtual Copies you're trying to "move" into a collection?
- Can you try changing the sort order of the Collection (from File Name to User Order, for instance) and see if that fixes it?
- Are you on a Mac or PC?
