Codename for the next release of Flash!
We just had the most successful launch of Flash in history and we're already working on the next version. It's too early to give away much information on the release but I do have a few things to tell you.
First, the most important part - the codename. ;)
The codename for the version 9.0 release of the Flash authoring tool is: "BLAZE".
BLAZE is going to light up the industry, continuing to be the best interactive design and motion graphics authoring environment available.
We can't comment on the timeframe for the release of BLAZE but it will be a full cycle so don't expect anything to be coming any time soon. That said, you've probably already heard about the upcoming release of Flash Player 8.5 with an alpha available in a few weeks and a ship date next spring. Flash Player 8.5 will add a new virtual machine, AVM2, and a new programming language, ActionScript 3.0. This player release will coincide with the release of FlexBuilder 2, the new Eclipse-based developer tool for creating rich Flash-based applications.
I wanted to point out that, as Flash grows into a powerful Platform, we should all start to expect the release schedule for the Player to fall out of synch with the different tools that publish Flash content. Flash Player 8.5 is a good example. Though Flash Player 8.5 will be released before the Flash authoring tool supports it, we do plan to add full support for ActionScript 3.0 into the authoring tool in the next release, BLAZE.
We also decided to take this opportunity to do something that we've never been able to do before. We're planning to release a very early alpha build of BLAZE publicly to all Flash Professional 8 or Studio 8 customers that will allow Flash developers to use ActionScript 3.0 and compile to Flash Player 8.5. We plan to release this public preview alpha release of BLAZE in the Spring of 2006 when Flash Player 8.5 is released. We're doing so in order to give developers who use the Flash authoring tool a chance to start learning ActionScript 3.0, migrate existing projects, and slowly transition to the new language.
A lot of you have asked me if we are planning to release another update to the Flash Player when BLAZE ships. The answer is that we are not yet ready to disclose the details on any releases past Player 8.5. We may or may not. The team is still discussing the roadmap and schedule for the Player and we are working to validate this with our customers in order to provide the best possible solution.
If you'd like to suggest features for BLAZE, please enter them in the comments for this post on the Flashteam blog.

I'm already in awe with Flash 8... this time it's me who can't wait to see what you will do with it (it=Flash Authoring Tool)!!
Guys: You ROCK!!! I was playing here with some of the new filter effects (found right what I was looking for to apply in a project) when I saw that little macromedia news icon flashing in the bottom corner in Firefox... guess what... just in case I wasn't amazed enough you go and come up with more and more and more...
Don't stop!!! We like it ;)
I'd personally like to have a good ActionScript 3.0 reference available when the alpha is released. Moock's Essential AS2.0 and the live docs helped me a lot moving from AS1.0 to AS2.0, and examples, lots of them...
Best wishes ;)

Great news,
I just hope it doesn't get out too quick, i just upgraded to 8 :)

Great news :)
Just missing one big feature, so I hope it will be included in BLAZE...
When I load some external swf with library to e.g movieclip container, i can attachMovie from this library only to container or its child movieclip. Can be this done in a way, that stuff from library can be use in every movieclips of main swf, not only container mcs?
I will much appreciate this feature!
Thanks

you should see the "technics" that other progrmas like 3d ou photoshop and ad to flash, like the filters :D:D:D:D...
i think that it should have even more...
like a 3d space inside,or something loke...without using plugins...
whell is think that fot web flash is the best..
but some times i just think that he could be better...
i be wainting for blaze..hope not be desapoint :D:D:D
gos luck

offcourse exited, but suprised cause my pseudo on the internet is BLAZE and also a Flash user since v4 (working for a e-learning company)
oh, does this entitle me automaticly as a beta tester? (plz? :) )

nice to see that macromedia is taking developers feedback at early Flash 9 development stage. i've been requesting this from flash 4 days.
thanks macromedia.

Comes with an Eclipse plug-in for AS editing? Yes? Please? :)
Posted by: PaulC at October 11, 2005 08:50 AM
My biggest feature request:
1. A new improved timeline, ala AfterEffects for us animators.
Other things I would like to see:
- Motion blur applied on an object by object basis automatically based upon movement. I like the new blur feature, but wish it could be switched to "auto blur".
- Support for Illustrator CS2 (CS3 in the future)files.
- Some type of file compatibility between versions (Photoshops "maximize compatibility" feature) so if I give a Flash 9 file to someone who may only have Flash 8, they can still open the file, but all the advanced F9 features would be disabled. This is better than the current error message. Saving down versions is annoying.
Posted by: John at October 11, 2005 09:11 AM
My one request - start filming the documentary earlier. I want the whole "behind the scenes" story.
Posted by: Tim Brady at October 11, 2005 09:24 AM
My requests:
1) The new curve editor is beautiful, but is relatively primitive and could be greatly improved.
2) An option to rasterize and save certain filter effects to pre 8 SWFs.
3) Better timeline control, such as stretch, accordian, put tweens end to end, align tweens, space tweens, ect.
4) Motion blur.
My biggest request:
1) Better playback on a Mac
Posted by: ABeall at October 11, 2005 11:46 AM
What will the difference between AS3.0 and AS2.0 be?
Posted by: ABeall at October 11, 2005 11:47 AM
Please please please tie the browsers back button into the flash player.
Posted by: jAQUAN at October 11, 2005 12:27 PM
The only thing I would like to see is:
Direct support for photoshop .psd files, they are changed when you use quicktime, especially with alpha's. Every thing is too light.
Other than that, keep up the good work!
Posted by: Tyler at October 11, 2005 12:50 PM
My requests:
1) 'find and replace' still seems somewhat 'funky' on the mac( ie can't expand or drag columns on results, clicking on results should go to and highlight origin)
2) playback on a Mac has been greatly improved but I feel there is still huge room for improvement
3) better integration with Captivate
Posted by: Jim Bachalo at October 11, 2005 12:51 PM
*Radial, Zoom and Directional Blurs. The blur is a wonderful addition, but often times a straight blur doesn't cut the mustard.
*The ability to create 3D layers and lighting effects much like AE.
*Motion Blurs (ala previous comments)
*Improved Compatibility Saving (ala the previous comment)
*Currently one has the ability to add certain jsfl commands to the Flash app to make life easier. I find that there are certain ones I USE CONSTANTLY and can't live without but it's annoying that there's no common library of these. These include:
*the ability to select and edit the properties of multiple items in the library
*the clear ASO cache command
*the clear+compile ASO cache command
Hope this is helpful.

requests
1) Close integration with Flex 2 Package
2) Define the role you see Flash playing in RIA dev and heavily focus on improvements in this direction
Posted by: Bjorn at October 11, 2005 04:22 PM
1) I've requested this since Flash MX's wish lists, and I see lots of people requesting for it as well: Layer Z-Depth (or 3D workspaces) like AE, combustion and Toon Boom Studio. This would make of Flash a really powerfull tool allowing for a myriad of incredible effects.
2) Enlarge the workspace for Christ sake!
3) Zoom capability beyond 2000%! (4 to 6000 would be very nice)
4) Text bulleting and underlining.
5) Gradient masks!!! Come on guys... how many times have you seen this wish; I think it's time.
6) Contour gradients like FreeHand.
7) Like many others do, I'd like to have code folding.
8) 64bit support & hardware acceleration.
9) Ability to tween blending modes.
10) An option to manipulate the timeline (and layers) like AE.
Thanx!!!

flash is very coool toool , but accessability on flash page is not the best thing the user has experience with work harder :)
Posted by: freezing at October 12, 2005 12:10 AM
I love the work this Flash Team is doing. I have three requests:
- Don't let Adobe spoil your genius, creativity and efficiency
- Please PLEASE, release a FP 8.5 for Handhelds. They now feature up to 624 MHz processors and screens are only 320 x 240 which is not too many pixels to move around to manipulate. This would make our life so much easier.
Posted by: Bruno Rousseau at October 12, 2005 04:08 AM
A few suggestions from the coder's side:
1. Would be nice to easily comment/uncomment several lines of code by "drag-marking" them and then pressing a certain key combination.
2. I'd love a parameter in the general settings which allows to preserve empty lines when doing
"Auto Format". I prefer to structure my code with empty lines as well.
3. Would be perfect if it were possible to build complex data structures easily (e.g. arrays of hashes of arrays). I love Perl in this respect.
Posted by: Thomas at October 12, 2005 08:24 AM
... not only build but also easily access data directly, with a kind of XPath syntax, i.e. no need for several for-loops in a row to get a certain piece of data.
Posted by: Thomas at October 12, 2005 08:27 AM
I would like to see WYSIWYG editor for Flash... It'll be nice to see Flash 9 support embedded HTML 4.0. WYSIWYG editor like this one http://www.fckeditor.net/ will be nice :) Thanks!
Daniel
Posted by: Daniel Chen at October 12, 2005 10:44 AM
Very important to add:
1- Arabic language support (more than 15 million Arab-people using SWISH instead of flash because of Arabic Language support).
2- 3D camera space support.
3- After Effects like - timeline.
4- Gradients are able on the stage itself.
5- Flash MX, MX 2004, and 8 compatibility.
6- Flash-projector improvement (auto run, encryption, password protection, background video feature).
Thank you
Posted by: Tariq Hamid at October 12, 2005 03:58 PM
I agree with you Daniel. Embedded HTML 4.0. in Flash 9 seems to be the next step for improving radically flash web sites. Visit my web site www.designiosgraficos.com. Thanks!
Posted by: Danny at October 13, 2005 08:39 AM
Nice..
I think i would like:
-a library of useful JSFLs
-if you change a symbol behavior on the library, it updates the instances on stage
-that the sendAndLoad method of the loadVars Class accept a target parameter that could refer to frames in HTML
(i got into trouble with that, send() would accept the page, and frame, but sendAndLoad() not, wich was what i needed)
Great Job on Flash 8, its just more than awesome :D

First i want to say: great job Macromedia !
The 8th Release finally brought direct access to bitmaps and more i didnt imagine before.
I was waiting for this since flash5
Now this is a surprise to announce the next release in this very short time.
The enviroment is now that powerfull that we can develop applications and not just have more eyecandy.
I would like to have direct access to the sound for things like sound sysnthesis like speech.
An option for access to outside controllers like joysticks for analog control would be very handy too.
What about p2p ?
What about visual coding like in virtools ?
go on macromedia ! again: great job !
Posted by: Andreas Vetter at October 14, 2005 04:56 AM
would be great to see flash remoting come already intergrated into the software. Many people are keen to get into remoting but struggle badly with even getting remoting up and going.
Posted by: mark at October 16, 2005 05:31 AM
Hi!
My request is the AS3.0's much much faster runtime environment than AS1.0 or AS2.0...
- to code really 3D based engines, like 3D beziers, 3D gradient fill handle (convert to 2D splines at realtime)
[for Gouroud technology, with recalculate to 2D anchorpoints) and some fast putpixel method with 32 bit alpha channel control (for instance _putpixel (x,y,r,g,b,a) like in other programming languages.
- to code realtime reflection maps and/or refraction maps
the current gradient fill handle's research with programmable anchor points
- to run 3D effects on a 2 Ghz Pentium smoothly
with AS3.0, without directX
like on a PI .. with assembly... on the old DEMO scenes
(gouroud, phong, reflection, refraction,3d morph etc..)
Posted by: tyotyo at October 16, 2005 06:31 PM
and one more idea>
programmable gradient coordinating with functions
to create hyperboloid and spheroid with AS
Posted by: tyotyo at October 16, 2005 06:34 PM
I would love to see the timeline of LiveMotion / AfterAffects replace the incredibly antiquated time line of flash
Posted by: Malon at October 16, 2005 06:44 PM
Can't we have a breather? How's anyone supposed to come to grips with the software if the next version is out before anyone has updated from the old one?
Posted by: Ryan at October 17, 2005 04:37 PM
Hi Ryan -
The next release of Flash won't be for a long time. We're only just beginning to define the requirements for the product over the next few months.
Posted by: Mike Downey at October 20, 2005 01:37 AM
SCORM intergration - simple as.
Posted by: vx1 at October 21, 2005 05:41 AM
the ability to export image to JPG or EPS in CMYK mode is a must. why macromedia team didnt include that "simple" option since flash MX? The better is, flash has CMYK color mode built in.

Blaze will support new reverse BlAzE technology for the Apple OS X platform give users an increase in reverse performance of about 33 percent.
Blze support will also have application containment features which provides users the ability to shut down browses if two or more flash animations are playing at the same time.

ONE FEATURE IS A MUST: BRING IT TO LINUX TOO.

With V8 the player's graphical capabilities have been moved forward enormously. However, with the exception of the maximum number of channels, there's been no significant improvement to the sound capabilities since the changes in V5.
How about the ability to play back sounds at different pitches, or apply filters and EQ? We can now access the pixels of the screen directly, how about the samples of a sound?
Thanks for all your hard work!

Following are some suggested feature for Flash 9 (Blaze):
1- Full integeration and arabic language support
2- More sound editing features
3- Timeline and video effects like Adobe Premier and After effects.
5- More mobile and handheld devices types and applications support (such as supporting UI, MMS, stand alone application..etc.)

1- Improve Flash as a cartoon program with charts and camera.
2- Improve working with 3D vector graphics and animation.
3- Add text effects

you think really that Flash9 can solve your RIA problem? :)))))

MM need you only to populate the Flash9 Player for make business with the Enterprise Server & Flex.
& what will Flash be: only motion graphics authoring environment

cool news about the alpha release... Im a little curious as to how many of the ppl that posted comments here are actually "paid" customers..anyway, not my problem, I am a paid customer, so come spring, Ill be waiting for my copy. One thing - the codename...its just a name, but there is already a third party app for flash called Blaze (Blaze3D)... Might want to do a codename rethink guys...
Posted by: codemonkeypete at November 28, 2005 02:13 PM
Please just improve the editor. it would be so nice and financially productive not to have to leave the IDE to develop. (i.e. auto-close quotes, brackets, more options for color syntaxing, anti-alias the text...).
don't yell at me but I am a mac user and alpha versions for us would be greatly appreciated. we think different™ and need love too.
AS 3.0 becoming more strict as a language is something I want to cuddle with by a warm fire on a snowy afternoon. Keep that up... but note that for the most part we are not java or c++ developers nor do we want to be. OOP is coming into place and the user base is there. use the standards, but let the language have its own dialect...

I have a laundry list of improvements too, but only one update would really matter to me.
Syntax highlighting.
Match parenthesis to parenthesis and bracket to bracket. It's that simple. You've already built the language; why not include very basic and standard IDE components?!
It's an easy project to implement and highly advertisable as well.
Hopefully someone who matters will read this and also pass this tidbit along to the dreamweaver division. Heck, I bet you'll even get a promotion if you build the functionality and tell the boss after you get it working.
It's not only about what the update can do, but how easy it is to tell someone else about it.
Posted by: Bryan at December 10, 2005 05:49 PM
PS If you turn the player into bloatware, I'll never update.
I can normally program any functionality that I need anyway (once I work around your paradoxical bugs).
Posted by: Bryan at December 10, 2005 06:01 PM
I'm an RIA programmer and my worst headache so far is in protecting my code. Anyone can download the SWF, decompile it, steal the intellectual property, figure out the transactions and then play around with the database. When will you guys come up with an encrypted SWF that can't be decompiled? Obfuscators add an extra layer of security but they offer no resistance to the dedicated hacker.

I'm Chintak doing animation stuff in flash. well may be someone have suffered such a problem. When i do motion tween of image having zoomin or zoomout and also having too slow frame rate, image gets crook(pixel effect). Please remove this bug or add this feature.
Regarding to this problem if i call this image externally then it doesn't react like this(if and only if there is only one frame on main timeline)now if i increase timeline from first frame then same problem creates again (croock image tween)
i searched too much for this solution but got failure to solveout this problem
I can send fla file for reference on request
thanks for this opportunity

I'm Chintak doing animation stuff in flash. I have felt this problem so often in flash. During the usage of pixle font or normal font they looks crispy or sharp only on perticular pixel position in workspace
I know in ver8 this option is given. But in this version if we export the swf in lower version compatible then this feacher got disable. same thing happens also with hair-line rectangle during tweening
please have a look this feature also...
thanks for this opportunity

Please, this time DO include a decent audio codec.
You NEED, i mean WE need AAC+ / He-AAC to go along with VP6. Not just MP3 or even plain AAC.
MP3 is at least two generations behind. Keep it for compatibility if you will, but it's no longer cutting edge. In the video streaming world, no one serious enoufg would consider using it with DSL bitrate videos for live broadcasting. It's too bandwith hungry. MP3 is almost dead for such use.
It's no use licensing one of the best video codecs around if you don't have its audio counterpart.
At least, consider Vorbis, it shouldn't cost you much...
Otherwise, accept losing a large part of your potential clients to Real, AOL / Nullsoft or Windows Media, the former two having already switched to AAC+ with good reasons.

Flash MX, MX 2004, and 8 compatibility.
Posted by: telewizory plazmowe at January 11, 2006 03:54 AM
Hi all,
just some comment, some years ago(for flash MX) i read on macromedia : "rich internet application is the future, use flash to do it now !", so i began to learn to do it, then you release flash mx 2004, it was the new way, new component, cool design, so i did it and began my business (new company), and all my products were based on flash, after comes flex, with cool components, (flex was to expensive) and it was also a diferent way of doings things, (i like the timeline) its : you can add cool animation with strong code.
And then you release flash 8, very very very cool, with upload feature (the most important thing for me), but always buggy components) recently i read, flash 8.5 is commeing, flex 2 will be for rich internet application, and flash re-for designers, but, please, never forget who partipate to the success, its flash, so please never forget that there is some developpers (that they are not professionnals coders) how can do strong application with the flash IDE. And please, flex is one think, flash is other, but components have to be the same; i think flash developpers have to be abble to use the flex ressources (good components, with dynamics update and bug correction). For example : i have suscribe to devnet, (now its finish...ok) and at the begining, you have done some updates to migrate MX=>MX2004 on the components, today, for examples the chartings components set 2 are buggy with flash 8,
at the begining the size of the drk was 500 Mo, the loast were 70, 30 Mo etc..
Another exemple, you had flash com who was accessible (490 € first price) i built an appi, (it took a long time because it was on my free time) and then, today i can't sell it because the is no more accessible price for lettle dev like me (2000€) its ok for big business but for me its to much.
Flex is on the same model, today if i will have one reason to buy flex is the components, not the ide.
So please macromedia/adobe, i'm like thoses people who plan to do thinks with macromedia flash, and contribute in the success also, but stop to change always thinks, decide one way, and do it compatibles, guive to flash users the possibility to also use debugged components, cool components, and the same help and reactivity how did the actual success of your company. (It does'nt mean that your are not reactive but, you alway inovate, its cool, but let a way to the users use your products.
You want promote flash in generals, gives the components of flex and flex 2( they are super) to every flash pro users (and give the right to use it).
You want promote flash paper, give us a way to make our viewer (not just an appi), give to people a free flash paper machine (with very simple options) and sell a version with a security option (like password etc...
The success of flash was that users had a lot of way to do the same thinks, so designers can learn code simple, and pro dev can makes classes, never change that please.
To conclude, i woold say, you rocks, you make very cool stuff and i love flash !!!!!
=================================================
Some idea :
-Runtime code execution (code in quote)
-True sharedlib, like we can define a shared lib by the code : _global.addSharedLib("theme1.swf"); and then we are abble to acces all the stuff of theme1.swf.
-Security function for load movie : mc.disableCodeInside = true; and then load a swf into mc, so no problems with all the stuff in the _parent appi
-Better speed of datagrid,
-one licence give the right to use the components and classes of flex flash flashpaper and central.
And good luke for the future and i'm ready for next version =)

SCORM support; thanks!
Perhaps some AS code for inverse kinemation. So animations similar to www.lostmarble.com "Moho" can be easily created. I realize this is a BIG request.
But thanks for hearing me out.

Seems like Director has been overshadowed by Flash, I would like to see improvements to the timeline and Director-like functionality with 3D content. We shouldn't have to buy a 3rd party application to get 3d content into Flash. The price point is high also, I have considered getting ToonBoom for their AfterEffects style 3d capabilities, therefore neglecting to upgrade Flash. For those of us on a budget you will need 3D capailities and timeline improvements to keep ahead of the competition. Price point is a little high!

Change the flash world and integrate total desktop compatibility (ala northcode or swfkit) this will be THE THING that changes flash into being not jsut a killer web tool, but a killer cross platform app.
Do that and even microsoft will be shaking.

it would be nice if even a handful of these actually get changed/included.. =]

ECLIPSE? huh? are you fucking kidding? NO Flash isnt a platform for code tards , its a creative medium. Yeas, for a more robust script editor and also better support for decompilers & audio codecs. Future support for Maya & High Def content also welcome. And for GODS SAKE!! lets stop the decompilers. I hate having my work ripped and on freakin template sites a week later!!!
Flash 8 is much better than MX2004 , though come on , dont roll out a new version every year roll out a version that works!
AS3 welcome , Syntax highlighting A MUST!!! jesus , takes a whole day if we phuck up a script. GET IT RIGHT MM oops I mean ADOBE.
PEACE!

Hello-
I would love to see the following additions for the animation world:
1. 3D Camera like AE
2. Better bitmap tracing, like Adobe Illustrator CS2, make batch processing possible.
3. Forward and Reverse kinematics for parenting and puppeting characters( like Moho).
4. If you make 2 versions (i.e. Flash, Flash Pro) make one for animators/ video people, and one for the webmasters/designers.

Hi, Any developer would love Generics in Flash like it is in C# .NET 2.0
and get rid of the rule that I have to put the word "function" next to any public or private function in my class, its just common sense

Hello.
Flash capabilities are great right now, I think that at this time you should focus more on the user interface (for developers). Giving it a better look and feel... Like Apple's pro user interface. It would really ease out the work and would make new developers even more interested in Flash.
Greetings.

Hi.
Flash is awesome. Would be great to see more dynamic components that allow the user to drag or copy images into flash during runtime from the desktop or cross browsers.

Feature request:
select "blocks" of text when dragging your mouse to select up (perhaps enabled by pressing shift then clicking and then dragging) instead of selecting whole lines.
(If this feature is actually already out there, forgive me.)

I have some suggestions for the new Flash:
- select all the lines/fills in one click.
- able to blur on the diagonal not just up or down
- fix the alias tool for dynamic text so it doesn't come up as TIMES NEW ROMAN when you choose VERDANA and you don't have to 'embed' the text which makes the .swf bigger.
*maybe this could be a wonder idea for flash but, pre-integrated action script, like preloading scripts, exterally loading text scipts.... like an area where you can click to generate the AS requiered for that task.

Forgot to say:
Instead of just stating the Sytax errors in the 'output' box, how about an auto highlighter that highlights bad coding until the user fixes it so you know exactly where it is because sometimes if i name a frame that same as another one, i can't find the problem, i know its my bad, but i don't think that anyone else would sorta argue.

1. The ability to add Xtras to the flash plugin
2. A 3d engine Xtra
3. midi control Xtra
4. regular kinematics and inverse kinematics for creating "skeletons" of movieclips that move with each other (a la After Effects)
5. Audio spectrum analyzer (eq, not just volume)
6. More generators like the Perlin one that already exists
7. select multiple files at the same time with the multipart form file upload feature.
8. More blend filter types
9. more to come...

Ok,
It is great to have a better tool but I think the computer world are killing us...
I can not rest a little because when I am learning action script 2.0 then I realized that I have to learn another language (3.0) and then...
4.0 and 5.0....uffff!!!
why you don´t keep a more lasting standard language?
give us a little time to enjoy the life too!!!
I mean to spend time with our family and enjoy
the landscapes...

Hi,
I have been studying a little bit of java... and I realized that they have a very nice tools for classes development and design. It would be nice to have an IDE like netBeans5.0 but for flash and flex of course and It would be great to have an UML modeler with reverse engine for action script something like Poseidon software for UML using action script..
thanks.

About the .AI export tool/option, hwy does it export to such a low grade of Illustrator, i think its MAX export is version 6....
i think also maybe a 'line wireframe' tool where you can add like a wireframe to a line so you can bend the same line in multipal directions to get a smooth vivid line rather then making several lines and spending ages getting it right or end up giving up on it.... twood be nice :D
i think also a better integration with Fireworks where you can import all the layers of a PNG Fireworks file into seperate parts instead of a single bitmap. and maybe a lazy option of importing with the option of creating it in a symbol/graphic :P
hehe, im full of beans on this thread.... And who keeps bloody spaming the thread, its really bloody anoying!!!

To the point: What I expect from Flash 9
1.- 3D support (Similar to Director)
2.- Complete integration of easing equations inside AS3.
3.- Complete support for XML structure (The nine types of nodes).
4.- Authentic Embedding Fonts (Some bugs in Flash 8)
5.- Audio channels reading.
6.- Crossbrowsing Javascript Support (Including Mac AppleScript).
7.- Full customizable components (There's no access to all skin properties).
8.- Binary Data and socket support.
9.- A real debugger.
10.- Faster time request between server language and flash.

Ive just downloaded the preveiw 'Flash 9 Alpha' and i find AS3 utterly utterly confusing. i don't care about how powerful it is. Everything is all over the place, so now i have to learn a whole new language to embrace the power of Flash 9 which i really hate.
What happened to the old ESC+ON to generate the code that you need, or ESC+GU for your URL function. And the setup for the folders are confusing to... i don't know where what is!... please, tell this to you staff

Every computer system is slightly different.
We all;
own, borrow, have student licences, have spyware, are being spyed on, have myspaces, have to figure out for eachother how to run our software on other systems, etc.
Do we all own shares in every major company in the world?
Do we all get our say if we know something highly important about the product?
How do you calculate how much each one owes you when we are all affiliated?

I know that flash from the beggining was for the net, or I think so. But there should be like a exe mode that you choose next after starting flash. When you choose exe mode there should be exacly like the normal but you can edit more advanced code. Heres some examples:
import flash.exe.icon;
iconBmp.attachMovie("icon",1);
get.icon(iconBmp);
and
import flash.exe.skin;
import flash.exe.window;
get.skin = false;
exitBtn.onRealse = function
{
exe.quit();
}
fullScreenBtn.onRealse = function
{
exe.fullScreen();
}
minimizeBtn.onRealse = function
{
exe.minimize();
}
when rightclick nothin will happend that could be change with somthin like this:
import flash.exe.rightClick;
show.rightMenu = true;
rightMenu(MySite, exit);
mySite.getURL(www.mysite.com);
like that
hope it comes in Flash 9!!!!

and possibility to save codes. Left in the action panel there are folders like global functions, browser/Network and so on there should be one folder "my codes" there you save your own codes, like:
if(Key.isDown(Key.LEFT))
{
_x -= speed;
}
then when clicking on the file the code will be putted in in the actionscript panel. So you don't need to write basic codes as that again.

Hi
I would like to ask if it could be made possible to seperate the lines from the fills in API drawing. I know that I can just dont make the fill and then have the line, but how about only having the fill and no line. This will become usefull if you API draw something 2 fills (same level, same layer and same color) and would like them to merge with eachother. This isn't possible cause of the lines around the fills... and would just end up in 2 fills where the one of them is overlapping the other, but not merged with eachother. Now... Lets say that I have to draw alot of api shapes in the same layer... since they are gonna be used for a mask, does the color not matter... so, wouldnt it be smart to acully let the fills merge and greatly reduc resource wait (cause many fills lag more than one merged one)
Hope you're understanding my wish, and hope nomatter if you are going to be including this or not, that BLAZE will turn out to be a great thing :)

First, GREAT JOB SO FAR!
and now, requests...:
* please, a function that plays frames in reverse.
* an output window such as the one in DirectorMX.
* an alert function like the one in directorMX, (for newbies and pros alike is such a good functionability tester!).
* bones.
* capability to integrate onion skins as symbols into animation.
* you know what, just include all the functions we had in directorMX and put them in a small folder, capable of being used into actionscript)
***thanks!

Posted by: katalog at October 13, 2006 06:57 AM
Okay, I only read about 11-12 posts but what I would (and just, I, guess.) is two features one you already have full-screen mode esp. for Digital Video and as mentioned a good number of times a sort of 3D space ?kind of, like Director some Z-form (as mentioned earlier) basic 3d, please

Please include a back button into the flash player, sometimes it´s so hard to search.

Please include a feature to sync audio with the timeline so that syncronising mouth movements with audio files is easier. (If this feature already exists, please make it more obvious)

Yeah I'm excited too. But the folks at Adobe really have to start making the runtime engine faster. A Slow Runtime Engine was the demise of Java, back in the day. I'm seeing all these Posts for 3D space in the Runtime Engine, and If Adobe can speed the engine up those wishes should come true. And Yes, damn it how about uniformly making the newest Flash Plug-in available on on all devices on release. Ok there my rant... :)

I would also need a reference guide. Im still getting used to 8 and its features...you may want to
break it down a bit for schmucks like me.

A proper export to adobe illustrator format. At the moment gradients look awful and solid colours come out very dull.
Don't make Flash too like illustrator, I personally think Illustrator SUCKS.

Will the little annoyances with the drawing API get tidied up in Flash 9? I'm working on an RIA that has a mix of hand drawn icons and icons drawn with the API. While using the API means we can draw everything via external XML files, the results are never as clean as hand drawn examples. The problems seem to manifest with curves and edges where fuzziness appears. Try drawing a small paperclip icon with the drawing API and you'll see what I mean.
A small improvement like that would make a big difference to our development effort, and affect choices in UI strategy, & making it easier to put a business case to upgrade to vers 9. However, when there is a new release of Flash we usually only hear about the big bells and whistles like regular expressions, etc, which while impressive may not address the problems & quirks faced daily by developers.

I have been studying a little bit of java... and I realized that they have a very nice tools for classes development and design. It would be nice to have an IDE like netBeans5.0 but for flash and flex of course and It would be great to have an UML modeler with reverse engine for action script something like Poseidon software for UML using action script ranking and pagerank

PLEASE upgrade Flash player for PocketPC Windows Mobile 5.0 (6.0 [crossbow] was released today) we were left behind in v.6 upgrade us to flash 9 so we can view youtube. since you guys know so much about coding flash why not create a flash browser for the pocketpc platform. god this would entertain me for hours at work. flash should be able to resize video to fullscreen. and low footprint.
